Garuda Indonesia to launch Bali-Medan-Amsterdam route on Tuesday

National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is set to launch its latest international Bali-Medan-Amsterdam service on Tuesday, a move that will considerably change the journey of passengers who have already bought tickets for the airline’s Jakarta-Amsterdam direct flight.

“For passengers who previously hold Jakarta-Amsterdam tickets, we will fly them to Kualanamu [International Airport in North Sumatra] from Jakarta and then continue the journey to Amsterdam and vice versa,” Garuda Indonesia commercial director Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah said in a statement received by The Jakarta Post on Friday.

Pikri said the move was part of the airline’s commitment to tapping into demand from the Bali and Medan markets to access the Amsterdam service, as well as to develop Indonesian tourism through the two cities’ popular destinations.

The new service will be available six times a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday using the Airbus A330-200, which can accommodate 36 business and 186 economy class passengers.

“As one of the most congested hubs in the west part of Indonesia, Medan serves as a strategic option for Garuda Indonesia to offer a more varied flight connectivity to Amsterdam and vice versa,” said Pikri, adding that Medan and Bali currently had at least 40 daily flights from and to Jakarta.

According to the schedule, the Bali-Medan-Amsterdam flight, or GA 088, will depart Ngurah Rai International Airport at 8:25 p.m. local time and arrive at Medan’s Kualanamu Airport at 11:15 p.m. local time. It will then leave for Amsterdam at 11:55 p.m. and arrive at Schipol International Airport at 7:50 a.m. local time.

Meanwhile, the GA 089 return flight from Amsterdam will depart at 12:05 p.m., land in Medan at 6:25 a.m., take off for Bali at 7:05 a.m. and land at Ngurah Rai International Airport at 11:05 a.m.

Passengers are advised to contact the airline’s call center at 0804 180 7807, Twitter account @garudacares and Facebook Garuda Indonesia for more information regarding adjustments to their bookings. (kes)
