In September Duesseldorfs mayor Dr. Stephan Keller was happy when Delta Airlines announced its new non-stop flight connecting Atlanta and the city on the Rhine river.
Also in September Dimitri Belov in charge of Medical Tourism promotion for the City of Duesseldorf invited stakeholders to a forum explaining the importance of the growing medical tourism sector in the city. Quality medical care should be added to the carnival, the best beer in the world called “Alt”, and the hottest and tastiest mustard on the planet.
Therefore among the happiest people in Duesseldorf are not only the directors of sales of some great brand and independent hotels, directors for some of the new hotels ready to open, but also doctors that cater to foreign visitors.
Duesseldorf is well-known as a medical tourism hub, and patients from the GCC region are leading the demand together with a growing number of Americans ready to find out what real preventive care was meant to be.
It’s not even just about new nonstop flights to Duesseldorf, because the Star Alliance member German rail connects Dusseldorf main train station with Frankfurt Airport (FRAPORT) in just 1 hour and 6 minutes on a 300 km fast train ride.
This is also good news for business travelers, and for travelers from the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and beyond traveling to the West German city known for having some of the most unique tourist attractions in Europe.
All of this may explain, why Duesseldorf booked the largest stand ever at the upcoming Arabian Travel Market in Dubai in May 2023.
Etihad Airways will operate the route Düsseldorf – Abu Dhabi with a state-of-the-art B787-9 Dreamliner offering passengers 28 seats in business class and 262 seats in economy class.
Initially, three weekly connections will be offered, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Sundays.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said: “We are thrilled to expand our network in Germany to our third city, providing guests with more connections between Abu Dhabi and Europe.“
Lars Redeligx, Chief Executive Officer of Düsseldorf Airport, emphasizes the importance of the route:
“The return to the route network of Etihad Airways is a strong signal for the positive development of our airport. Abu Dhabi is an attractive and important travel destination for both leisure and business travelers.
From there, our passengers also have very good connections to Africa, Asia, and Australia. Conversely, the now even better accessibility for guests from the United Arab Emirates also strengthens tourism and the economy in North Rhine-Westphalia. We are very pleased to be able to welcome Etihad Airways back to Düsseldorf from October.”
Etihad discontinued service in 2020 due to its failed investment in Air Berlin.
