Over 400 members from the aviation industry across the Americas were gathered for the 14th edition of the International Air Transport Association ( IATA )’s ( WOCA ) Spotlights Sustainable Regional TravelFavorite. The two-day event, which took place in Santiago, Chile on April 10 and 11 under the style” Advancing Aviation for a Aggressive and Green Future,” facilitated fruitful discussions and collaborations that sought to influence the state’s heat transfer view. The contribution of 16 hospitality ministers from the Americas, which highlighted the critical link between hospitality and aircraft, was a significant aspect of this conference. In his opening statement, Peter Cerdá, IATA’s Regional Vice President for the Americas, emphasized that over 90 % of foreign visitors to Latin America and the Caribbean travel by air, underscoring the need for concerted work between governments and flights to increase the state’s socio-economic effect. Cerdá even mentioned the rise in connectivity and the recovery of air traffic to levels prior to the pandemic. Despite these positive styles, revenue for local airlines remains a problem. Cerdá outlined key areas where governments and the economy may work: Lowering taxes, charges, and fees: Creating a good payment structure benefits both airlines and passengers, fostering lasting growth.
Harmonizing requirements: Aligning rules with world requirements ensures efficiency and fairness, promoting a level playing field for flights.
Infrastructure suitability: Airport and air traffic management system investments must be in line with customer and growth needs in the future.
Sustainability: Governments and the private sector should work on supportive policies for sustainable aviation fuels ( SAF ) and invest in innovations to achieve net- zero CO2 emissions.
During the meeting, Chile launched its SAF development blueprint under the” Vuelo Limpio” program, aiming for 50 % SAF use by 2050 through a open- personal relationship. One of the panels put a focus on attracting talent to the aviation sector, with a focus on inclusion and diversity. Chile’s Civil Aviation Authority ( DGAC ) joined IATA’s 25by2025 initiative to enhance diversity and inclusion in aviation. Additionally, the event delved into topics like Modern Airline Retailing, Regulatory landscape, and Sustainability, offering three parallel tracks for the first time in the conference’s history. ” The key takeaway from the conference is very clear: collaboration. By working together we can overcome challenges, drive innovation, and create a more resilient and sustainable aviation value chain across the Americas”, said Cerdá.
