Hotel stays for eclipse fail, Austin go officials say

AUSTIN ( KXAN )— Local group Visit Austin said 78 % of hotel rooms were booked through the April 8 solar eclipse, but that while successful, the turnout was not as great as initially anticipated.
Wesley Lucas of Visit Austin reported that the organization constantly monitors the ownership of Austin’s 50, 000 resort rooms.
She claimed that there are roughly the same number of rooms booked for South by Southwest and other significant regional events like the Austin City Limits celebration. According to Lucas, eclipsed go was expected to be more in line with tenancy seen over Formula 1 weekend, with that figure hovering just a few points below 100 % for the past few years.
She claimed the agency looked into why eclipse stays did n’t reach their sell-out potential and blamed this on different spending patterns of the crowd watching the solar eclipse.
According to our analysis, “Eclipse travelers are usually more budget aware when making a journey decision. So they’re staying in campgrounds, or even select service hotel property, quick term rentals, even a big group of folks are traveling up”, Lucas said.
Lucas stated that Visit Austin may be informed of the benefits of a Smith Travel Research questionnaire, which will provide a thorough analysis of the financial effects of the thermal eclipse.

During the April 8 solar supermoon, guests were supposed to have spent more than a billion dollars in Austin and the surrounding Hill Country, giving the state one of its biggest economic increases of the year.
