International Air Travelers Spend$ 20.9 Billion in the United States

The National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO ) of the International Trade Administration has made public the results from the inbound Survey of International Air Travelers ( SIAT ) for the third quarter of 2023.
The Survey of International Air Travelers ( SIAT ) is a continuous research initiative that gathers statistical data on passengers flying between the US and other countries as well as between Mexico and the United States. Data on getaway planning, traveling behavior, demographics, and spending are gathered by the survey for two different groups: US citizens leaving the country and non-US citizens entering it.
The SIAT focuses on learning more about the traits of travelers who arrived in the US by heat.
All people traveling abroad to or from the United States are included in the example population. But, there are two different teams that are being concentrated on. The flight crew also make sure that the study packages are delivered back to the US. The poll kits are then returned to our company by the gateway managers for processing.
In addition to the previously mentioned in-flight study method, NTTO also gathers surveys at various airports. A niche support contractor is hired to carry out this task, distribute the surveys, gather responses, address any questions from respondents, and then transfer them to our contractor for processing. For this operation, cooperation from the terminals and the national inspections personnel stationed at each airport is essential. The top state visited was New York (2, 151, 000 ), followed by California ( 1.9M), Florida ( 1. 6 million ), Nevada ( 679K), and Hawaii ( 581K).
The typical foreign customer decided to travel to the United States 109.2 days before the trip and reserved an airline 78.8 days in advance.
20.2 % traveled with a spouse or partner, 21.8 % with family or close friends, and 57.4 % traveled alone.
The trip’s primary goals were vacation and vacation ( 59.2 % ), visit friends and relatives ( 22.9 % ), and business ( 13.7 % ).

The typical Canadian air traveler had an annual household income of$ 122, 769, spent$ 999 in the US, and stayed 7.67 nights. The estimated total amount of travel spending in the US was$ 2.1 billion, an increase of 4.2 % from the second quarter of 2022.
The most popular state visited was California ( 451, 000 ), followed by Florida ( 399K), New York ( 338 ), Nevada ( 244 ), and Texas ( 111K).
The typical American traveler decided to travel to the United States 80.9 days in advance and reserved an airline 59.9 days early.
16.9 % traveled with family or close friends, 21.3 % with a spouse or partner, and 60.5 % traveled alone.
The trip’s primary goal was vacation/holiday ( 50.8 % ), followed by Visit Friends/Relatives ( 23.1 % ) and Business ( 16.4 % ).
Sightseeing, Experience Fine Dining, Art Galleries/Museums ( 21.7 % ), and Amusement/Theme Parks ( 20.9 % ), were the top leisure activities, followed by shopping ( 74 % ).

The typical Mexican visitor had an annual household income of$ 61, 175, spent$ 1, 541 in the United States, and stayed 12.87 nights. From the third quarter of 2022, the estimated total amount of travel spending in the US was$ 1.3 billion, an increase of 58.5 %.
Texas ( 171, 000 ) was the most visited state, followed by California ( 17, 000 ), Florida ( 145 ), New York ( 101K), and Nevada ( 76K).
The ordinary traveler decided to travel to the United States 64.4 days in advance and reserved an airline 42.1 days early.
19.9 % traveled with family or close friends, 1.23 % with a spouse or partner, and 67.6 % traveled alone.
The primary goal of the trip was Vacation/Holiday ( 56.0 % ), followed by Visit Friends/Relatives ( 21.7 % ) and Business1 ( 19.1 % ).
Sightseeing ( 68.7 % ), amusement/theme parks ( 33.3 % ), national parks/monuments ( 28.5 % ), and art galleries/museums ( 27.3 % ) were the top leisure activities, followed by shopping (83.4 % ).
