SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 )— Utah’s construction season will be taking a long weekend for Memorial Day to ease any annoyances caused by the anticipated heavier-than-usual traffic.
More than 43.8 million Americans are expected to travel over Memorial Day weekend this year, up 4 % from the same period last year, according to AAA.
” We’re anticipating Memorial Day weekend sales like we have n’t seen in almost 20 years,” said AAA Utah Senior Vice President of Membership and Travel Marketing Brian Ng. ” It’s not just a returning to pre- epidemic levels, but also foreshadows the strong travel season away”.
On Friday, May 24th, the Utah Department of Transportation warned vehicles on westbound I- 15 in Salt Lake County they could anticipate up to 25-minute difficulties. Places along the Wasatch Front, like as I-15 in Davis and Weber County and northbound US-6, may experience more 10 minute difficulties.

On Memorial Day, according to UDOT, individuals can anticipate more delays of up to 20 minutes on western US- 6 and a 10-minute wait on northern I- 15 near Nephi.
To help alleviate travel frustrations, UDOT said it would be suspending construction and opening all lanes of traffic, however, certain lane restrictions ca n’t be avoided.

Here are some of the places where drivers may also anticipate closures:
I- 15 near 5600 South and Riverdale Road in Weber County: I- 15 will continue to be down to three roads where personnel are working to recreate the I- 15 exchange and increase 5600 South to 3500 West.
Senior- 12 near Henrieville: Expect small detours for gate substitutes near Henrieville.
SR- 132 from Nephi: SR- 132 will be available with alternating one- means traffic signals.
The day after Memorial Day, Tuesday, May 28, development may start on SR- 24 between I- 70 and Hanksville. Driving on the UDOT route to or from Lake Powell should anticipate slower speed limits and up to 15-minute marking difficulties.
