” Get flights, no feelings” is just one of the mischievous sayings emblazoned on Talking Out Of Turn’s beautiful, retro- inspired journey accessories. The boutique’s expansion began with accessories, but it has since grown to include shaped duffel bags and color-blocked shoulder bags made from recycled water bottles. Their “flower power” ripstop nylon material, which is ideal for practical purposes, also packs a punch with it. It even feels ( in the best way ) like it came straight out of the sixties. But what was it that really caught our attention? The blade case. The ideal reason to take along the roller skates and act as though you’re still a teen living it up over summer break. As you make your next vacation, you should check out eight more local brands below. These will make sure everyone knows you’re from Texas, from bag tags to card holders.
Bexar Goods Co. ( San Antonio )
The owners of Bexar Goods Co. are familiar with traveling and have retrofitted an old Airstream video to create a portable store ( most times it can be found at the SA Yacht Club ) and have their bags designed with experience in thinking. Consider, for example, the Porter Satchel, a favourite of inc- owner and scientist, Guy Rubio. Although it appears to be a backpack and has pants for a laptop or tablet, he frequently puts his to the test in the wild, climbing over barbed wire fences, incinerating it, and packing it as far ahead as Iceland. Over period, the bronze technology and horse- stitched leather—sourced from one of the oldest industries in the country —show their time, but the finish is part of the beauty. Additionally, they produce canvas duffels and weekender bags that are available at Bexar Goods ( they frequently sell out ), which are also available.
Frankie Jean ( Austin )
Maybe you might want to express your Texas confidence more subtly. Visit Frankie Jean’s virtual store. The owner, Ashley Green, grew up in Buda and applies her signature cursive to cozy sweatshirts ( for those chilly flights ), hats ( for when you forget the sunscreen ), and packable tote bags ( for holding souvenirs when your suitcase is overflowing ). Some sayings, like” I love you so much,” a smile to the classic painting outside Jo’s Coffee, may only make sense to Texasans, while others, like Georgetown, highlight hidden gems. If you only want to demonstrate your passion for a particular Texas food class, like picnic or burritos, she’s got you covered there, too.
Ida Mae Home ( Fort Worth )
This Cowtown business pays homage to Ida Mae Grant, a “feisty grandmother” who raised on a farm outside of Waco and passed down stacks of cherished quilts. Today, her descendants turn colorful, quilted fabric into machine- washable duffels, totes, and boot bags. Go the patchwork route or choose from a plethora of patterns including retro, toile, modern ranch, or Victorian- esque floral. There’s even one featuring Big Tex.
Jon Hart Design ( San Antonio )
Texans have been provided with roller suitcases, garment bags, and roller suitcases with built-in garment bags by Jon Hart Design for more than 50 years. The only thing that stands out among the variety of travel accessories is the customization options. There is n’t a piece you ca n’t monogram. Choose the style of text, gold or silver foil, or even add a varsity number if you’re an athlete. More unusual colorways ( think mint and coral ) and funky patterns ( leopard, camo ) help ensure your bag does n’t get lost or taken by mistake. Do n’t sleep on the smaller items either, like the leather handle wraps or clear, TSA- approved pouches. The coolers are in a clutch for nursing mothers or those who want to enjoy their own snacks on the plane.
Odin Leather Goods ( Lewisville )
Leather is Odin Clack’s favorite feature because it tells a story. As he puts it, all the scuffs, scratches, and stains make a piece identifiable and—thanks to Clack’s quality craftsmanship—his designs can be handed down for generations. For a timeless cross-body bag or trendy fanny pack, which has a unique marbling effect that adds a personal touch. His sturdy luggage tags come with your contact information, the option to inlay” USA” or” TX- USA,” as well as the outline of the state. Have a number of pieces to follow? The three-pack of leather luggage markers is our favorite. The Rolltop Duffel Revival Dirt Bag. Courtesy of Sendero Provisions Co.’s Revival Cycles Bandanas. Courtesy of Sendero Provisions Co.
Revival Cycles ( Austin )
Revival Cycles is known for its hand-crafted, custom motorcycles that come out of its East Austin showroom, but it also has a long history of producing roll-top “dirt bags.” The bags are made of heavy-duty coated nylon and aircraft-grade aluminum hardware and are available in black or army green as well as in backpack or duffel form. The seams are completely waterproof, so it works just fine if you accidentally get wet on your bike and want to take it on a canoe down the Colorado River.
Sendero Provisions Co. ( Waco )
There’s a reason cowboys are never without a bandanna—they’re the perfect travel accessory. Bandannas can provide an extra layer of warmth in the winter and protect you from the sun in the summer while you’re on the Chisholm Trail or just going for a walk. Sendero Provisions Co. offers some of the prettiest. Made from 100 % organic cotton, their bandannas feature illustrations of jackalopes and cosmic cowboys, as well as “old Western proverbs” like” Speak your mind, but ride a fast horse”. If you enjoy visiting national parks, make sure to check out the Big Bend design.
Texas Cork Company ( Bryan )
The mother- daughter duo behind this sustainable brand sell stylish, cork- based sling backpacks, passport holders, luggage tags, and cases for your glasses. But they do n’t stop there. They have planted their own cork oak orchard in Central Texas to find new ways to use the trees ‘ regenerative bark in an effort to encourage more eco-friendly practices. They also reuse packaging for shipping.
