Following a minor quake on Friday that threw Northeast people into a bind, flights at airports in the New York City area were briefly canceled. The state’s Office of Emergency Management said there were no immediate reports of harm following the 4. 8 magnitude earthquake that struck at 10:23 a.m. Friday night, but spasms may be felt at least as far west as Baltimore and as far north as Boston. The earthquake’s epicenter was in Lebanon, New Jersey, about 50 miles west of New York City, according to the United States Geological Survey ( USGS). Need more aircraft reports? Following the earthquake, the Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ) reported that delays were briefly imposed on flights into New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport ( JFK) and Newark Liberty International Airport ( EWR ) after their departures. Speaking at a press conference, Jackie Bray, director of New York’s Division of Homeland Security, said that crew were inspecting air traffic control infrastructure for any signs of damage. Airlines at LaGuardia were no delayed. The air traffic control services at that airports were more recent and less likely to suffer destruction, according to Katherine Garcia, director of state operations. Airlines departing from JFK by 11:30 a.m., but those arriving from Newark will remain in their destinations until at least 12:30 p.m., according to the FAA in a ground stop see. Flights from all three flights continued to depart without much of a delay and were already flying, with the exception of Newark’s. Amtrak stated that it was checking the lines along the Northeast hall and that train frequencies were restricted as a result of the audits. The New York Police Department’s commander of travel stated on X, the software previously known as Twitter, that the city’s subway system had no harm and that no service interruptions were caused by the earthquake.
