Who are we kidding, tourists love discovering the best techniques and it’s seems like a little hurt, no bad situation.
Sure, locals might be peeved about tourists trickling in, but secrets do n’t last forever. Not have, always did.
Vacationers in Florida frequently choose the shore as their destination for a beautiful getaway, stretching from Destin to Key West along the country’s coastline.
Although The Sunshine State is one of the most sought-after sites for sun and sand, there are still hidden pearls to avoid the crowds.
One mysterious seaside town with picture- great white sand is Florida’s best- kept surprise. Visitors practically begged me not to read about it because it’s so secret in truth, as if it’s buried in the backrooms of Fort Knox.
Doh.
Welcome To Nokomis
Another hour west of Tampa lies Florida’s best- kept secret beach getaway.
The beach itself is the true stone, with its swarm of network restaurants and mobile home gardens that appear modest at first sight.
However, visitors had n’t become friendlier and more inviting as this laid- back coastal area is full of great times, until they find out you’re a travel writer.
There is definitely a mixture of a younger audience enjoying the lively club scene with live audio and all the fresh shellfish fixins you may think and retired men wearing large shorts and palm tree attire in Florida.
Beach feelings are everywhere, not just on the beach, but also in the numerous waterfront restaurants and tiki hut-style bars where it seems like Jimmy Buffett will stop at any time.
Local’s Favorite Alternative To Siesta Key
If there’s one area that is definitely not a secret, it’s Siesta Key.
Constantly ranked as one of America’s best beaches and nicely- deserved, there is a big parking significant for a reason.
This flaky white sand beach in the United States is about as Caribbean-like as it gets, but depending on the time of year, it can be challenging to like when you have no neck area.
Only 15 minutes apart, Nokomis Beach is the next best thing.
As you enjoy much more room while also vacationing in beautiful white sand, you can actually see Siesta Key from here and storm to the crowd.
Given it’s a well- kept secret, the parking options are much smaller. You have a good chance of getting a front row seat with easy access to this secretive paradise if you visit during the week.
Make sure you attend the lively drum circles that take place every Wednesday and Saturday night.
Not The Only Hidden Gem Around Here
Nokomis Beach is undoubtedly the city’s top tourist destination, but Cool Breeze’s pontoon boat rental option allows guests to enjoy dinner at Pop’s Sunset Grill next door.
The scenic waterways that pass past more well-known beach towns like Venice can be spent hours on.
However, there are other secret gems that only locals are aware of. One of them is Stump Pass, a gathering place for boaters to relax, unwind, and enjoy crystal clear water perfect for snorkeling and swimming.
You’ve probably never seen more seashells and sand dollars in perfect condition than inside a typical beach town gift shop because it’s so unspoiled.
Just watch out for crabs!
4 Airports To Choose From
Both Siesta Key and Nokomis are nearby. There are a few other airports even further away with affordable airlines, which could potentially save you more on airfare, but flying into Tampa has the most flight options.
These four airports are all less than an hour away from Nokomis:
Fort Myers ( RS W) – 1 hour, 10 minutes
Tampa ( TPA ) – 1 hour
Punta Gorda – 37 minutes
Sarasota ( SRQ ) – 30 minutes
These affordable airlines fly into the area:
Allegiant
Avelo
Breeze
Frontier
Spirit
Sun Country
Nokomis is not the type of beach getaway for 5- star beach resorts, it’s more of a laid- back vibe to escape the crowds.
Although there are some well-known hotels in town, it’s probably best to rest your head in Siesta Key and take Nokomis by day if beachfront hotels are what you’re looking for.
