Banners for Gaza: An imaginative call for mankind

A powerful creative protest against injustice… In a bubbling show of unity, Zawyeh Gallery in Alserkal Avenue has unveiled its latest group show, Posters for Gaza. 26 talented Israeli and Egyptian artists each bring their special voice to lighting on the continuing atrocities in the Gaza Strip, and this provocative showcase highlights their creations. The exhibition’s heart is sparked by an unwavering plea for a stop-fire and the recognition of Palestinians ‘ fundamental right to live easily. Four of the participating designers ‘ backgrounds give their creations an even more specific and touching quality, which adds a special depth to this exhibition’s poignancy. 3 of 12Uniformly shaped and designed in a streamlined manner, the banners reflect originality in terms of design, materials, and the actual stories. Steering away from the modern rule, participating artists poured their efforts into producing those banners, utilising a variety of materials, including acrylics, inks, coal, mosaic, and mixed media. Tapping into the posters ‘ subjects, the themes vary, but both the artists call for mankind to succeed. The functions All Rights No Reserved by Hosni Radwan and We Are Doing Good in Gaza… What About You? feature elements that address human rights violations in Gaza. by Khaled El Haber. In his banner Sleepless, Gazan artist Mohammed Joha embodies stress and worries about his family’s lives in the country. Hazem Harb’s poster also carries a message of grief and melancholy. However, Hassan Manasrah and Vera Tamari visit for the liberty of Palestine, while artists, Bashar Alhroub, Wadei Khaled and Iraqi designer Reda Alyasari, rely on the comfort of home and motherhood. The exhibition revives a longstanding tradition in Palestinian activism with a nod to history. Political posters, a potent form of expression, were prolifically produced during the ‘ 70s and ‘ 80s by the Palestinian Liberation Organisation, drawing contributions from Palestinian, Arab, and international artists. These visual narratives played a pivotal role in garnering global support for the justice of the Palestinian cause, championing values of freedom, dignity, resilience, and the unyielding pursuit of independence. Original posters are for sale from Dhs3, 000. Through the Palestinian Red Crescent, proceeds from the sale of poster copies of the posters are Dhs300 and help to provide desperately needed medical care to Gazan children.
