Hawaii’s iconic beach is being taken over by Kimpton.

The renowned location has remained unaltered and in ruin since 1992, suffering significant damage from Hurricane Iniki. Before that, the resort was a popular spot for stars again in its era, hosting the likes of Elvis Presley, Gene Autry and Rita Hayworth. Today, the home will convert into Coco Palms, A Kimpton Resort, the second home in IHG’s pleasure and lifestyle collection in Hawaii. It will begin in 2026. Reef Capital Partners owns the dilapidated hotel, which has remained largely untouched for over 30 years, according to Hawaii’s KHON- Television. The owners reportedly intend to spend$ 400 million on the repair of it. According to a statement from IHG, the new resort may have 350 areas in three different low-rise properties and be “guided by Native Hawaiian officials within the local community.” Coco Palms may include a top club and a pool bar as well as three swimming pools and several restaurants and bars as well as an “authentic, culturally abundant experience” for guests. After 30 years, the classic resort’s night torch-lit ceremony will also be held. Moreover, the hotel will have an on- page social center and museum that celebrates the island of Kauai and its past and traditions through specific exhibits, lectures, activations and different educational experiences. ” Hawaii beckons travelers seeking both relaxation and discovery”, Leanne Harwood, IHG’s senior vice president and managing director for luxury and lifestyle in the Americas, said in the statement. Coco Palms will become the “west coast resort flagship” and one of a number of Kimpton-branded resorts around the world, including properties in Thailand, Spain, and the Caribbean, with unique, culturally respectful experiences all within an inspiring boutique luxury setting.” This wholly reimagined resort will welcome not only visitors but also the local community,” says Coco Palms.
