Saudi Arabia Railways supports eco-friendly rail transportation to promote travel and tourism FavoriteSaudi Arabia Railways ( SAR ) has begun 2024 by accelerating significant increases in both passenger and freight volumes, strengthening both the importance of the rail network to the kingdom’s transportation infrastructure and its commitment to sustainable development. 1. Impressive passenger and freight growthSAR witnessed a 23 % increase in passenger traffic in the first quarter of 2024, with over 2.7 million passengers choosing rail travel. This wave is attributed to the reliable and efficient services offered across SAR’s important pathways: the East Train, North Train, and the large- rate Haramain Express. Freight services are also on the rise, with a 9 % increase in transported goods, totaling 6.34 million tons. By reducing over 500, 000 vehicle visits on the country’s streets, reducing carbon emissions, and protecting road infrastructure, this progress supports both the commercial sector and the environment. 2. Radar is significantly expanding its services capabilities under the direction of CEO Dr. Bashar bin Khaled Al-Malik. The inclusion of the logistics zone with Dammam’s following industrial city into the rail network, which improves the efficiency of the supply chain across the country, is a notable development. Radar and Swedish manufacturer Stadler have a deal signed to include 10 contemporary passenger trains to the East Train network in response to the rising demand. This growth will increase the number of passengers traveling by train, increasing the monthly capacity to over 3.8 million, and create strong Express trains between Riyadh and Dammam, boosting rail travel’s appeal even further. 3. The” Desert Dream” coach, a luxurious vacation experience that is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, is being planned for the future, according to SAR. This initiative, which is scheduled to begin at the end of 2025, exemplifies SAR’s creative strategy for improving the region’s vacation experience. The National Industrial Development and Logistics Program ( NIDLP ) and the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones ( MODON ) act as a strategic partner to strengthen the industrial sector’s supply chains and facilitate access to local and global markets. 4. As Saudi Arabia continues to urbanize and expand its economy, SAR’s role in bridging big cities and industrial hubs grows more important. The development of rail service is in line with the Kingdom’s economic objectives and not only addresses the growing needs of tourists and businesses. With continued jobs and potential developments, SAR is well-suited to help Saudi Arabia’s desire for a more connected and sustainable future.
